Even if you don’t watch The Bachelor (I stopped watching a few seasons ago), you have probably been victim to Tuesday morning recaps at work. Interestingly enough, buying a home and The Bachelor have a lot in common. Go with me on this.
Capture the Opportunity
Bachelor cocktail parties are vicious! The girls compete for one-on-one time with the one guy. When a girl gets time with the Bachelor, she better talk fast – before she gets tapped out. The same is true in a competitive market like the Bay Area. We must work together to get your ducks in a row, so that when you find *the* home, we can act fast to win it!
Do it for the “right reasons”
This is the most (in)famous line of the show – Is she here for the right reasons? I talk about this a lot with clients. Is buying a home right for you? Like a relationship, buying a home isn’t always a walk in the park, and it’s important that you understand the value (both financial and personal), so that you only buy for the right reasons.
Follow your heart
The Bachelor has to quickly “weed” out the girls that aren’t right for him, often after only a short interaction. It’s not always perfectly logical; sometimes you have to trust your heart. A home is your only investment that you live in and make lifelong memories in. Don’t forget to listen to your heart.
Don’t strive for perfection
Whether you watch the show or not, you know that no one is 100% perfect. Relationships are about finding the person who makes you happy and has a lot of what you’re looking for. You compromise on the less important things. With a home, there will always be tradeoffs to make. No home is perfect. But, does it make you happy? Does it have the things that are most important to you?
